Holidaymakers witnessed a terrifying scene as a light aircraft crash-landed near their accommodations this afternoon. The small plane, heading towards Tenerife South Airport, encountered mechanical issues, compelling the pilot to make an emergency landing on side roads close to residential and holiday flats in Amarilla Golf resort, only a short distance from the popular golf course.
The incident occurred at 5pm, with no major injuries reported. Both the pilot and co-pilot, unharmed but taken to the hospital for precautionary check-ups, successfully landed the aircraft following an engine failure that caused a sudden loss of altitude during the approach to the airport, coming to a stop at an intersection.
Emergency services, including the Tenerife Fire Consortium, local police, and medical teams, responded promptly to assist the crew. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the flight’s technical failure.
According to an emergency department spokesperson, the occupants were evaluated by SUC ambulance crews and then transferred to a hospital for observation and further assessment, showing no signs of serious injuries. Firefighters applied a foam mattress to contain spilled fuel and prevent ignition, without impact on pedestrians or other vehicles.
Efforts focused on managing the fuel spill by applying foam to the plane and road surface to mitigate any potential hazards.
