An on-duty bus driver tragically passed away after an alleged assault occurred while the bus was parked at a bus stop early on Monday morning.
Sergei Krajev, a 64-year-old Transport for London bus driver, succumbed to injuries sustained during an assault on Battersea Bridge in London. His family mourns the loss of a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
Authorities responded to the incident at 00:33hrs on Monday, May 18, following reports of the assault. Despite receiving immediate medical attention from officers and being airlifted to the hospital by London’s Air Ambulance, Krajev could not be saved.
The alleged assailant, Gary Jones, 32, was arrested at the scene on Hospital Bridge Road, Twickenham. He was charged with causing grievous bodily harm, appeared in Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court, and has been remanded in custody pending further court proceedings at Kingston Crown Court on June 15.
Detective Inspector Sarah Lee, leading the investigation, expressed condolences to Krajev’s family and reassured the community and public transport network workers of ongoing support and collaboration with Transport for London during the inquiry.
The family of the deceased bus driver fondly remembered him as a caring, diligent individual who valued his relationships with colleagues and performed his duties with dedication. They extended gratitude to the emergency services and law enforcement for their professionalism and care during the tragic event.
