“London Mayor Warns of AI Threat to Job Security”

Date:

Artificial intelligence poses a significant threat to job security if immediate action is not taken, according to a warning issued by Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London. Khan expressed concerns that the rapid advancement of technology could lead to widespread unemployment and exacerbate inequality if left unregulated. He highlighted that over half of workers in London anticipate the impact of artificial intelligence on their employment within the next year.

In a recent speech, Khan emphasized the critical need to harness the potential of AI for positive change rather than allowing it to become a destructive force in the job market. He announced the establishment of a London Taskforce to swiftly assess the potential effects of AI on the workforce.

Referencing the negative consequences of uncontrolled technology, Khan pointed out the risks associated with social media platforms and emphasized the importance of proactive measures. He stressed the necessity for swift action to prevent the harmful outcomes witnessed in the past due to delayed responses to technological advancements.

A recent report by LinkedIn highlighted that 70% of job skills are expected to change by 2030, underscoring the urgency for preparing the workforce for the future. Khan emphasized the collective responsibility to ensure a smooth transition by equipping workers with the necessary skills to adapt to evolving job requirements.

The Mayor announced the formation of a taskforce to develop strategies for London to address these challenges and ensure that workers are adequately prepared for the changing job landscape.
