In London’s Covent Garden, a woman has been brought before the court on charges of stabbing four men in the back with scissors. Stella Gollovena, aged 47, allegedly assaulted Patrick De Barr, Thomas Harding, Adrian Lovett, and Mantas Jankus during an incident that occurred on Wednesday afternoon.
She is facing accusations of four counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and one count of possessing an offensive weapon, a pair of scissors, in a public area. Gollovena, who does not have a fixed address, appeared in court for the first time to respond to the five charges at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Thursday afternoon.
According to reports from the hearing, the police were alerted by one of the injured victims on Endell Street, a bustling tourist spot with various bars, theaters, and restaurants, around 12:25 pm. The victims informed the police that they had been stabbed, leading to a pursuit and subsequent apprehension of the suspect by officers using a Taser.
Statements were taken from four men who received medical treatment for stab wounds on their backs, while a fifth individual claimed to have been stabbed but declined to provide a statement to the authorities. Allegedly, Gollovena was found with a pair of scissors, also referred to as “shears,” in her possession at the time of her arrest.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Tan Ikram ordered Gollovena to be held in custody until the upcoming hearing at Snaresbrook Crown Court scheduled for September 3. Gollovena confirmed her identity but did not enter any pleas regarding the charges.
Following the incident, an air ambulance landed in a crowded Trafalgar Square, and the London Ambulance Service transported the four injured individuals to a major trauma center as a priority by road. The Metropolitan Police reported that the four men, aged 34, 39, 42, and 56, sustained stab wounds but have since been discharged from the hospital as their injuries were not considered life-threatening or life-altering.
