Lord Peter Mandelson Apologizes for Epstein Ties

Date:

Lord Peter Mandelson has issued a personal apology to the victims of Jeffrey Epstein, expressing remorse for his continued association with the convicted sex offender. This apology follows recent criticism directed at him after emails between Mandelson and Epstein surfaced in September, resulting in his dismissal as the US Ambassador.

In a recent interview, the Labour peer was asked if he would apologize to the victims for his ties to Epstein. Mandelson’s initial apology was directed towards the women affected, acknowledging the failure of the system to protect their voices and rights.

Facing backlash, Mandelson provided a statement to BBC Newsnight, admitting his ignorance of Epstein’s crimes and apologizing unequivocally to the victims for his actions. He expressed regret for believing Epstein’s lies and maintaining their association post-conviction.

Despite some Cabinet ministers and peers criticizing Mandelson’s initial response, he later clarified his regret over the situation. Baroness Kennedy described his failure to apologize as “shocking” and emphasized the importance of acknowledging the suffering of the victims.

Mandelson previously expressed belief in Epstein’s innocence even after his 2008 conviction for soliciting prostitution from a minor. Acknowledging the embarrassing nature of the published emails between him and Epstein, Mandelson accepted the consequences of his actions and expressed a desire to move forward without seeking further debate on the matter.
