“Lottery Winners Pay It Forward with Charity Projects”

Date:

A decade ago, a couple won £1 million on a scratchcard and since then, they have been actively contributing to various National Lottery charity projects. Natalie and Andrew Cunliffe’s life changed for the better after their win, enabling them to renovate their dream home and focus on raising their two children. In addition to their personal gains, they have selflessly volunteered their time to support community groups and organizations that have received funding from the Lottery.

Their charitable endeavors have included assisting at a children’s hospital, volunteering at a hospice, and hosting afternoon tea for patients. According to Natalie, beyond the financial security, the most significant impact of winning the lottery has been the freedom to dedicate time to giving back to others. She emphasized that the win has provided them with opportunities to support their family and make meaningful choices.

Natalie, a former events manager at Blackpool Tower, mentioned that the winnings allowed her to take a break from her career to focus on raising their children. She has now returned to work as a civil servant to stay engaged intellectually. The couple expressed pride in their volunteer work on Lottery projects, highlighting the value of giving back through time and effort.

One of their projects involved constructing a festive ‘gingerbread house’ at Zoe’s Place in Liverpool for children to enjoy during Christmas. They also volunteered at Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice, which faced financial challenges but was saved through a successful public appeal that raised £7.5 million. Natalie expressed admiration for the hospice’s incredible work and the families it supports.

Moreover, the couple contributed to a bereavement center at Liverpool’s Alder Hey children’s hospital by helping to replant a garden area. They have also been involved in renovating a local boxing club in Blackpool and organizing afternoon tea at the Tower Ballroom for patients and families at the Trinity Hospice. Natalie highlighted the importance of Lottery funding in supporting various projects and emphasized the broader impact of playing the Lottery beyond personal gain.

Their experiences have showcased the positive impact of giving back to the community and the significance of Lottery funding in supporting essential projects and organizations.
