“Major M6 Crash Causes 6-Mile Traffic Jam”

Date:

Drivers experienced significant delays after a collision occurred on a major motorway, leading to the closure of multiple lanes on the M6 by the police. The lanes have since been reopened. Traffic congestion stretched back for approximately six miles, as depicted in images of lengthy queues.

Following the reopening of all lanes, the traffic situation has improved, although motorists are still facing delays due to the earlier tailbacks. Lancashire Road Police are present at the scene to manage the situation.

Although all lanes are now accessible, delays of up to an hour persist. National Highways announced the completion of recovery operations and the reopening of all lanes on the southbound side of the M6 between junctions 31A and 31 near Preston. They also mentioned that around five miles of congestion and delays of up to 60 minutes are still expected.

Traffic cameras have captured the heavy congestion on the M6 resulting from the crash, with traffic continuously building up. A map has been released to highlight areas to avoid during the travel disruption, showing traffic buildup on the eastbound section of the M55 leading to the M6 southbound.

Motorists have been advised to anticipate at least 45 minutes of delays due to the incident. Three lanes were closed in response to the crash, with National Highways confirming the closure of lanes between junctions 31A and 31 on the M6.
