Major Streaming Service Streameast Shut Down in Antipiracy Victory

Date:

Streaming premium content for free has gained immense popularity in recent times as households seek alternatives amidst financial challenges. Many are turning to illicit platforms that provide unrestricted access to sports and movies without the usual subscription fees.

The allure of accessing content like Premier League and F1 without cost is appealing, leading to a significant shift away from legitimate channels. However, this trend has not gone unnoticed by authorities and content creators.

In a move to curb unauthorized viewing, a substantial crackdown has occurred, resulting in the permanent closure of a major streaming service. Working alongside Egyptian authorities, the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), a leading antipiracy coalition, has successfully dismantled a notorious piracy network.

One of the platforms, Streameast, has been offering access to various events including Premier League matches, garnering over 1.6 billion visits in the past year alone. Apart from premier football, Streameast also provided users with access to F1, MMA, Moto GP, and sport-specific piracy sites for American leagues like the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB.

Charles Rivkin, Chairman of ACE and CEO of the Motion Picture Association (MPA), hailed the takedown as a significant victory in the fight against digital piracy. Site traffic primarily originated from countries like the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Philippines, and Germany, and users of the platform are now blocked from accessing its content.

The successful enforcement action was commended by industry stakeholders, emphasizing the detrimental impact of piracy on the sports economy. The collaboration between ACE and beIN MEDIA GROUP underscores the importance of global cooperation in combating criminal piracy operations wherever they exist.
