“Man and Woman Arrested for Toddler’s Death in Chemical Tragedy”

Authorities have apprehended a man and a woman on suspicion of manslaughter following the tragic death of a one-year-old girl in a flat where hazardous chemicals were present.

Emergency services responded to reports of dangerous substances at a residence on Barking Road, Upton Park, Newham, London. The incident occurred on Tuesday when two adults, the one-year-old child, and a six-year-old were taken to the hospital after being exposed to the chemicals. Regrettably, the infant girl passed away in the hospital, with authorities indicating she had contact with the hazardous materials.

Law enforcement officers have detained a 41-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, both unrelated to the victim, on suspicion of manslaughter. They are currently in custody as the investigation unfolds.

As a precautionary measure, approximately 12 individuals were evacuated from neighboring properties while emergency crews managed the situation, as confirmed by the London Fire Brigade. Metropolitan Police officials are providing support to the deceased girl’s family while clarifying that the incident is not linked to terrorism.

A statement released by the authorities stated: “The arrest is in connection with the fatality of a one-year-old girl who was exposed to hazardous substances in a Newham apartment. The suspects have no prior relationship with the victim.

“London Fire Brigade alerted the police to the presence of dangerous chemicals at a residential property on Barking Road, Upton Park, around 1:20 pm on Tuesday. Two adults and another child, aged six, received medical attention at the hospital. Their conditions were confirmed as non-life-threatening and non-life-changing.

“Specialist officers are assisting the family of the deceased girl. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.”

Following the tragedy, the London Fire Brigade issued a statement mentioning that they conducted a thorough search of the property for hazardous substances. The statement read: “Unfortunately, a child lost her life following an incident involving dangerous substances in Newham.

“Emergency crews were dispatched to a residence on Barking Road, Upton Park, following reports of a chemical odor. Sadly, one of the children passed away in the hospital during treatment. Surrounding properties were evacuated as a precaution while crews managed the situation.

“Trained firefighters meticulously searched the affected property for hazardous materials, working to identify any dangerous substances and ventilate the area. The incident was reported at 13:18, and firefighters from various stations responded. Crews concluded their operation by 16:23. The Metropolitan Police Service is leading the investigation, with support from the fire brigade.”
