A man is set to face court over the alleged involvement in the 2017 death of a 21-year-old individual. He has been accused of murder in connection to the tragic passing of Hayley McClenahan-Ernst in Kingswood, a suburb of western Sydney, Australia, who was pregnant at the time. Authorities responded to a residence in the early hours of May 21, 2017, where Hayley was discovered unresponsive. Despite efforts by New South Wales Ambulance paramedics, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Initially, a 21-year-old man, known to the victim, faced charges related to violating restrictions in an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) and had legal proceedings against him. However, recent developments led detectives to arrest a 30-year-old individual at a property near Coffs Harbour in April 2026. Video footage released by NSW Police depicted the apprehension of the suspect, who was later charged with murder and scheduled to appear in court.
The circumstances surrounding Hayley’s death raised suspicions, prompting an extensive investigation since 2017. Following a coronial inquest hiatus in 2025, the case was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Subsequently, in October 2025, Nepean Police Command detectives revisited the case, continuing their inquiries. Through persistent efforts and a public plea for information, a breakthrough led to the arrest of the 30-year-old suspect nearly nine years after the tragic event.
