“Man clinically dead for 7 mins urges seeking medical help”

Date:

An Edinburgh man shares his experience of being clinically dead for seven minutes and advises those with concerns to consult their doctor for medical guidance. Mark Davison, aged 50, was diagnosed with kidney disease in 2022 while living in the United States. Despite minimal symptoms, he sought medical attention after noticing blood in his urine, leading to hospitalization. Since then, he has been undergoing dialysis thrice weekly, expressing how it has significantly impacted his well-being.

In a terrifying incident last May at Western General Hospital, Mark suffered a cardiac arrest and was unconscious for two days in intensive care. Medical professionals revealed he had been deceased for seven minutes, a rare event described as ‘one in a million’. The dialysis team performed CPR, saving his life, a fact he acknowledges, crediting them for his survival.

On the occasion of World Kidney Day, Mark emphasizes the importance of public awareness about kidney diseases and encourages individuals with concerns to seek advice from healthcare providers. Reflecting on his journey, Mark disclosed, “Living in America at the time, I began experiencing blood in my urine, prompting a hospital visit. Following my return to Edinburgh in October 2024, I started dialysis treatment at Western General Hospital, impacting my daily life significantly.”

Despite facing challenges and the life-altering effects of dialysis, Mark remains hopeful for a kidney donor in the future, expressing a desire to resume his photography career that he had to abandon due to his diagnosis. He advises others to prioritize their health and seek medical help when needed, highlighting the transformative impact of dialysis on his life.

Mark’s near-death experience during his wait for dialysis serves as a poignant reminder of the critical role healthcare professionals play in saving lives. His journey underscores the resilience and courage required to navigate the complexities of chronic illness, urging others to prioritize their well-being and appreciate the life-saving support available.
