A man has been convicted of murdering his pregnant girlfriend after she declined to undergo an abortion.
Donovan Faison, known as a monster, was found guilty of first-degree murder in the case of his pregnant partner, 18-year-old Kaylin Fiengo. Prosecutors argued that Kaylin’s refusal to have an abortion led to her death.
The jury reached a verdict after just two hours of deliberation in the 2022 killing. Kaylin’s body was discovered with a gunshot wound inside a stationary vehicle on November 11 of that year.
Authorities later confirmed that Kaylin was approximately three months pregnant at the time of the incident. She had engaged in multiple disputes with Faison regarding her choice to proceed with the pregnancy.
Prosecutors in Seminole County, near Orlando, Florida, are pursuing the death penalty for Faison. The sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday.
Shortly after Kaylin’s demise, an investigation revealed that she had gone to Coastline Park with the intention of meeting an acquaintance. At the time of her death, Kaylin was also a mother to a 1-year-old boy.
Tatiana Fiengo, Kaylin’s aunt, expressed relief, stating, “We’ve been waiting a long time for this. It doesn’t bring her back, but at least he’s not out hurting other people.”
Statistics from US crime reports indicate that one in five victims of homicide are killed by an intimate partner. Furthermore, over half of female victims of homicide are murdered by a current or former male intimate partner.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 1,361 homicides in Florida in 2023, resulting in a death rate of 6.5 per 100,000 individuals.
In contrast, England and Wales recorded 590 homicide victims in the year ending March 2023, despite having a population almost three times larger than that of Florida, according to the Office for National Statistics.
