A man convicted of raping a 15-year-old girl is currently evading authorities. Aland Ahmed, aged 23, has been sentenced to nine years in prison in his absence for sexually assaulting the girl in a Nottingham apartment in 2022. Nottingham Crown Court revealed that Ahmed fled the country following his arrest and subsequent charge. Despite his absence during the trial, he was found guilty of a single count of rape.
During sentencing, Judge Steven Coupland highlighted the gravity of Ahmed’s actions, emphasizing that the victim, who was just 15 at the time, had clearly resisted his advances. Despite her protests, Ahmed forcibly took her to a bedroom where he raped her for several minutes without protection. The assault only ended when another person in the vicinity interrupted them, witnessing the victim in distress. Subsequently, the victim had to recount the traumatic incident during a video interview and trial, where Ahmed’s denials were presented to her in his absence.
The victim’s statement revealed the devastating impact of the assault on her life, leading to substance abuse, strained family relationships, and the need for specialized care due to complex PTSD. In addition to the prison sentence, Ahmed, residing on Highbury Road, was also placed on the sex offender register for life.
Nick Corsellis KC, representing the prosecution, described how the victim bravely resisted Ahmed’s advances before being forcibly raped in the bedroom, with DNA evidence linking him to the crime. Despite appearing in court initially, Ahmed absconded before his trial, leaving little information available about him. The victim’s statement detailed the emotional toll of the assault, including struggles with substance abuse and alienation from her family, though she showed signs of improvement over time.
Corsellis noted that once apprehended, Ahmed would serve a minimum of two-thirds of the nine-year sentence.
