In a shocking and disturbing incident, a man with two daughters was discovered in a storage unit alongside his daughters and the dismembered remains of his wife, shortly after she gave birth to their baby girl.
Justin Rey, 35, gruesomely “skinned” Jessica Monteiro after her death at 32 in a motel, before taking a disturbing photo with her body and their two children. Jessica’s body parts were found in various containers, with Rey initially claiming she died by suicide but later changing his story to suggest she died during childbirth, with the cause of death remaining inconclusive.
Following Jessica’s death in a Kansas City motel, Rey refrained from seeking help and instead dismembered her body, justifying his actions by expressing fear of losing custody of their daughters. Rey spent eight hours cutting up Jessica’s body before storing it in a cooler, according to Jessica’s sister.
During his testimony, Rey defended his actions by stating he felt compelled to protect his family. The discovery of Rey and his two daughters living in a storage unit led to his arrest, with concerns raised about the older child’s health. Rey admitted to making his children pose with their deceased mother and confessed to the gruesome act of dismembering her body.
Further investigation revealed Rey’s actions of photographing his wife’s body with their children and subsequently dismembering her remains in a hotel bathtub. Rey’s statement to the Associated Press regarding his actions was met with shock and disbelief.
Rey faced charges of child endangerment and contributing to a child’s misconduct, unrelated to his own children but stemming from evidence found on his phone. Following disruptions during court proceedings, Rey was removed from the courtroom and sentenced to nine years in prison, with a requirement to register as a sex offender.
Throughout the case, Rey maintained his innocence on certain aspects while admitting to the dismemberment of his wife’s body, citing religious beliefs as justification.
