During a court hearing, it was disclosed that a man exposed himself following an altercation with two hotel staff members at a facility for asylum seekers.
Sukirthan Thangrasha, a Sri Lankan national, is facing trial at Portsmouth Crown Court for one charge of exposure stemming from the incident that took place on August 15, 2025, at Highfield House Hotel in Southampton.
The court was informed that the 38-year-old, who required a Tamil interpreter, had previously admitted guilt to two assault charges against the staff members.
Prosecutor Jack Furness stated that Thangrasha visited the hotel reception, where the incident initiated due to his frustration over his malfunctioning phone. He began verbally abusing the staff and subsequently exposed himself.
Furness quoted, “The defendant was residing in accommodation designated for asylum seekers. Upon reaching the reception area, he expressed anger about his phone issue, hurled abusive language towards the staff, demanded phone repair, and made derogatory remarks about their nationalities.”
“The staff attempted to pacify him, but Thangrasha proceeded to uproot a plant from a pot and then exposed himself by lowering his trousers,” Furness added.
“Initially, he partially exposed himself by lifting his top, showcasing his torso, and later fully exposed himself by removing his trousers and underwear, revealing his genitals to onlookers,” Furness continued.
One of the staff members reported feeling threatened by Thangrasha, who had admitted to assaulting him and another colleague. CCTV footage confirmed the incident, with the defendant acknowledging the exposure but denying any intent to cause alarm or distress.
The trial is ongoing.
