“Man Hospitalized After Council Restroom Door Collapses”

Date:

A man was hospitalized in severe pain after encountering a poorly-maintained council restroom in Stoke. Philip Johnson, 70, suffered an incident at Central Forest Park while out with his family on Easter Monday. Upon entering a cubicle, he described how the door detached and collapsed, causing him back injuries and potentially risking harm to others.

Johnson recounted the frightening experience, noting the heavy door swung back at him, causing him to sustain back injuries. The adjacent cubicle also collapsed, narrowly avoiding any occupants. Despite the ordeal, Johnson managed to free himself with the help of bystanders and sought medical attention at Haywood Hospital, where he was diagnosed with soft tissue injuries.

Expressing concern over the hazardous restroom conditions, Johnson criticized the lack of maintenance by Stoke-on-Trent City Council, emphasizing the need for immediate action. Despite his attempts to report the incident to the council, he faced delays in receiving a response, leaving the restroom situation unresolved.

Emphasizing the importance of maintaining public facilities, Johnson urged for the closure and renovation of the restroom, highlighting the unacceptable state of the amenities in a family-oriented park. He stressed the urgency for improvements to ensure the safety and well-being of park visitors. The Mirror has reached out to the council for comment on the matter.
