A man with two children has been imprisoned following a Facebook post that led to legal trouble. The Nottingham Crown Court disclosed that Mason Jeffrey, 37, expressed a threatening message towards his ex-partner, whom he had previously assaulted. He also made alarming statements to one of her acquaintances, suggesting harm to the ex-partner and her new significant other.
These actions violated a suspended sentence order, resulting in part of the sentence being enforced, leading to his incarceration for a maximum of one year. During sentencing, Judge Rosalind Coe KC emphasized the seriousness of the breach, stating that despite any personal issues, breaching the restraining order and issuing threats was unacceptable.
According to prosecutor Georgina Miller, Jeffrey, residing in Bilborough, had a history with the woman and had received a suspended two-year jail term in February 2025 for assaulting her. A restraining order was also placed for five years to prevent any contact between them. In November 2025, Jeffrey updated his Facebook status with threatening messages, which alarmed the victim and her friend.
Jeffrey admitted to violating both the suspended sentence and the restraining order. His defense lawyer, Digby Johnson, mentioned Jeffrey’s heroic act of saving his brother-in-law’s life during a severe asthma attack. Johnson added that Jeffrey, set to reside with a friend in Long Eaton post-prison, was provoked by reports of a new man threatening his children.
