A man was caught on tape threatening to harm his partner during her pregnancy and after giving birth to their child in a distressing recording of domestic abuse. Brandon-Lee Chambers, who strangled his victim shortly after she had a Caesarean section, can be heard in the recording warning, “One more f****** moan out of you and I swear to God I’m gonna kill you,” while she pleads with him, questioning his actions and expressing fear.
Over a period from January to June 2023, Chambers engaged in a pattern of domestic violence against his partner, including strangulation, physical assault, and causing injuries severe enough to prevent her from holding their newborn for breastfeeding. One incident described during a sentencing hearing at Truro Crown Court involved Chambers putting his hands around his partner’s neck and pushing her against a sink unit while she was five months pregnant.
Following the birth of their child, Chambers, 28, from Falmouth, continued his abusive behavior by lifting his partner by the neck and strangling her again as she recovered from the Caesarean surgery. A recording of one of the abusive incidents, where Chambers threatened his partner after jamming her arm in a door, was shared by the victim. The recording captured Chambers shouting insults and making threats as the victim cried out in pain.
Chambers’ ex-partner reported the abuse to the authorities, leading to his arrest. He later pleaded guilty to charges of controlling and coercive behavior, assault causing bodily harm, and intentional strangulation. During the sentencing, His Honour Judge James Adkin highlighted Chambers’ history of domestic abuse and the impact it had on his victim, stating that she would require therapy to recover from the trauma. Chambers received a 36-month prison sentence, of which he will serve half before being released on license. Additionally, a restraining order was issued, prohibiting Chambers from contacting his victim for seven years and from visiting a specific address in the Redruth area.
