A man has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 19 years for killing his baby stepson in a fit of anger following an argument with his ex-girlfriend. Thomas Morgan, 29, was found guilty of the murder of five-month-old Jensen-Lee Dougal at their home in Clydach, Swansea Valley. Despite denying the charges and claiming he tried to save the baby’s life, Morgan was convicted of murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
The court revealed that Morgan, who was in a relationship with Jensen-Lee’s mother, assaulted the baby the day before his death, leading to catastrophic brain damage, multiple fractures, and severe retinal bleeding. The tragic incident occurred after Morgan argued with his former partner, leaving him alone with Jensen-Lee while the mother was at work.
During the confrontation with his ex-girlfriend, Morgan sent derogatory messages and insults, even while driving with the baby in the car. He then purchased cannabis, snacks, and alcohol with the baby in tow before returning home to watch TV. Later, Morgan called Jensen-Lee’s mother, claiming the baby was choking. However, the baby’s injuries were severe, leading to his untimely death in the hospital.
Prosecutors described Morgan as being full of rage and aggressive, indicating a drastic change in behavior following the argument with his ex-partner. The court emphasized that Morgan’s violent actions, including shaking the baby forcefully, resulted in fatal internal injuries that led to Jensen-Lee’s death.
In response to the sentencing, Jensen-Lee’s mother expressed her profound grief and the lasting impact of losing her innocent child.
