A shocking incident was captured on video showing a heavily bloodied individual wielding a sword at a neighbor’s door, causing chaos as described by a judge. Jan Dziedzic, aged 36, had consumed alcohol on November 11 last year while baking a Christmas cake in his residence in Belvedere, South London. He then left his flat armed with the weapon, claiming later to have no recollection of the events. Surveillance footage revealed Dziedzic, covered in blood, confronting his neighbor with the sword, despite having only a casual relationship with the individual.
The judge remarked that the sight of Dziedzic holding the sword was undoubtedly alarming and caused genuine distress to the woman. Dziedzic was sentenced to a year in prison after pleading guilty to affray, criminal damage, and possession of a bladed article in public. Judge Ruth Downing expressed concern over Dziedzic’s actions, describing him as a follower of Japanese culture.
During the trial, disturbing footage, shared by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) with the Mirror, depicted Dziedzic in a green t-shirt and headphones brandishing the sword at the neighbor’s door. The video, captured by the neighbor’s Ring camera, showed Dziedzic visibly agitated and injured, striking the door with the weapon while blood ran down his face and shirt. He left the scene after around 30 seconds without interacting with the neighbor, shouting at the camera before retreating into his flat complex hallway.
Judge Downing emphasized the distress caused to Dziedzic’s neighbors, labeling them as “decent human beings” who were understandably alarmed by the bloodied man wielding a sword. Dziedzic expressed remorse in court, acknowledging his appalling behavior and the impact on those involved. He was advised to seek help and address the reasons behind his disruptive actions on the fateful night. Dziedzic is required to serve a minimum of six months in prison before becoming eligible for release on license.
