A masked arsonist was caught on CCTV setting fire to and destroying four vehicles valued at over £80,000. The incident occurred at around 11:45 pm on Sunday when the perpetrator poured fuel on the cars parked at CG Motorland in Leicester, causing them to go up in flames. The vehicles, each valued at approximately £20,000, were completely destroyed in the inferno.
Authorities from the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service managed to extinguish the blaze, and an investigation has been launched by the police into the arson attack. The owners of the vehicles believe it may have been a case of mistaken identity as they are unsure why their cars were targeted.
According to a spokesperson from CG Motorland, the incident seems to be a misunderstanding, with the intended target possibly being a nearby car wash. The company faces financial losses as insurance will only cover the trade value of the vehicles, not their final sale price.
The site suffered significant damage, with barriers, tarmac, fascia boards, and signage partially melted by the intense heat of the fire. The company is cooperating with the authorities and appreciates the support of emergency services in dealing with the aftermath of the senseless act.
Leicestershire Police are investigating a possible connection between this incident and a previous fire at a neighboring business. No arrests have been made thus far, and anyone with information is urged to contact the police, referencing incident number 636 of January 18.
