Fueled by the strong tramontana wind, the fire continues to rage in Girona, northeast Spain, casting a large cloud of smoke over the popular tourist destination.
Residents in the Empordà region have been issued precautionary stay-at-home orders impacting about 12,000 people. In addition, around 40,000 individuals have received alerts via Es-Alert, Spain’s national emergency warning system, on their mobile phones, instructing them on safety measures to follow.
