“Massive Wildfire Forces 12,000 Evacuations in Costa Brava”

Date:

A massive wildfire has torn through approximately 750 hectares of woodland near Costa Brava, prompting the evacuation of up to 12,000 individuals who are now seeking refuge indoors.

Fueled by the strong tramontana wind, the fire continues to rage in Girona, northeast Spain, casting a large cloud of smoke over the popular tourist destination.

Residents in the Empordà region have been issued precautionary stay-at-home orders impacting about 12,000 people. In addition, around 40,000 individuals have received alerts via Es-Alert, Spain’s national emergency warning system, on their mobile phones, instructing them on safety measures to follow.
