McDonald’s Loyalty Program Adjustments Spark Customer Frustration

Date:

McDonald’s customers are expressing frustration as the popular fast-food chain announces adjustments to its loyalty program. Starting March 17, the number of points required to redeem free items through MyMcDonald’s Rewards will increase.

Currently, customers need 5,500 points for products like a Big Mac, Double Fillet of Fish, Double Sausage and Egg McMuffin, and Nine Chicken Nuggets. However, this threshold will rise to 6,500 points. Points are earned at a rate of 100 points for every £1 spent at McDonald’s.

For lower-tier items such as a Medium Coffee or Small Fries, the point requirement will increase from 1,500 to 2,000 points. Additionally, items like a regular McFlurry or an Apple Pie will now cost 3,500 points, up from 2,500 points. To redeem a Double Cheeseburger or a McChicken sandwich, customers will need 5,000 points, an increase from the previous 4,000 points.

Responding to concerns on social media, one customer expressed dissatisfaction, while another inquired about the start date to redeem their points before the changes take effect.

A spokesperson from McDonald’s explained that the adjustments to the loyalty scheme are in response to escalating food and supply costs. Despite the increased point requirements, new fan-favorite items like Chicken Selects, Cheese sides, and a new Sausage Sandwich have been added to the redemption options.

The loyalty program changes coincide with the launch of McDonald’s new menu, featuring innovative offerings like the Surf N’ Turf burger and the Chicken Cheeseburger. Customers can also enjoy new items such as the Espresso Milkshake and Chilli Cheese Bites.

McDonald’s customers are advised to stay updated on these changes as they navigate the evolving loyalty program and menu offerings.
