Extensive rainfall is expected in various parts of Britain on Monday, as warned by the Met Office.
Weather maps released by the Met Office indicate that heavy showers are probable across multiple regions, including western Scotland and parts of Northwest England.
The inclement weather is forecasted to persist throughout the week, presenting a sharp contrast to the recent sunny days. While temperatures soared to 27.3C in Charlwood, Surrey, on Friday, they are anticipated to drop as a low-pressure system moves northeastward.
This shift will bring cooler and wetter conditions, especially in western UK regions. According to a Met Office chart, Dumfries and Galloway, as well as the Scottish Borders, are likely to experience the brunt of Monday’s gloomy weather. Showers may also turn thundery in southern areas, including the Cornish coasts and parts of Devon.
The Met Office’s outlook from Monday to Wednesday states: “Rain will affect northern areas on Monday and Tuesday, while southern regions will become increasingly hot and humid with possible showers. Wednesday may see showers or longer periods of rain.”
According to The Express, aside from a brief spell of humidity on Tuesday, temperatures will start declining from Sunday. Western UK areas are expected to reach around 17C on Monday, a noticeable drop from the peak of 27.3C recorded in Southeast England on Friday.
Met Office Chief forecaster Chris Bulmer remarked, “A change in weather pattern early next week will bring warmer conditions to England and Wales, albeit with showers or potentially thunderstorms in some areas. While some southern regions may experience minimal rainfall, the north could see heavy rain accumulation, particularly over parts of Scotland.”
These weather developments follow the Environment Agency’s revelation that over half of England has been experiencing scorching conditions, leading to drought status declarations in multiple regions. This primarily affects central, eastern, and southern England, hinting at potential water use restrictions ahead.
