“Met Office Warns of Power Cuts in Six Areas Amid Thunderstorms”

Date:

The Met Office has issued a warning for potential power cuts in six areas due to anticipated thunderstorms and rain on Tuesday. The alert covers Northern Ireland from midday until 9 pm, with the possibility of short-term power and service disruptions. To prepare for potential power cuts, the Met Office advises gathering essential items like torches, batteries, and mobile phone power packs.

According to the national weather agency, showers will intensify on Tuesday, becoming heavy and possibly thundery in the afternoon. These slow-moving showers are expected to bring significant downpours, with rainfall of 20 to 30mm per hour. Strong winds, gusts, and hail are also likely during the heaviest showers, gradually easing by the evening.

Apart from power cuts, residents in the warned areas are encouraged to assess the risk of flash flooding in their homes and businesses. Additionally, individuals are advised to check road conditions before traveling due to the expected adverse weather conditions.

The Met Office offers safety tips, recommending finding shelter during thunderstorms, avoiding trees and elevated areas, and moving to lower ground if necessary. Meanwhile, Scotland and western parts of the UK can expect showers, heavy rain in the north, scattered showers in the south, warm and humid conditions, and windy weather in the north on Tuesday.
