“Mexican Activist Found Dead After Exposing Company”

Date:

An environmental activist and influencer, Manuel Alejandro Moreno Serna, known as Alex Serna, was tragically discovered dead in Mexico after receiving ominous death threats warning him to “back off.” Serna went missing on June 20, the same day he exposed a fruit company in a video. Two days later, his body was found in a blue drum, showing signs of torture, in Zihuatanejo, Guerrero.

The Human Rights Commission of the State of Guerrero confirmed that the remains belonged to Serna, prompting widespread local outrage. The discovery was made on June 22 along the Zihuatanejo-Acapulco federal highway in Petatlán. His family identified the body before the confirmation by CDHEG, which is calling for a thorough investigation into the incident.

Serna, well-known in the Costa Grande region for his activism, had accused a foreign mango company of unauthorized water extraction in his state. Despite the lack of information on a motive for his death and no arrests made, Serna had previously received menacing death threats on social media.

The community, including activists and journalists, has rallied in support following Serna’s death. Calls for justice have led to planned demonstrations against disappearances and silencing. Concerns about the safety of communicators in Guerrero have also emerged, urging authorities to address the escalating situation in the region.
