A recent escalation in the Middle East has sparked concerns as Israel and Iran engaged in missile exchanges despite claims of peace talks by Donald Trump. The conflict resulted in casualties and injuries when Iran launched missiles on Kuwait, pushing the region towards the brink of war.
Confirming the attack, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that it was in retaliation for the US targeting an Iranian oil tanker and Qeshm Island. The US military defended its actions, stating that it had acted in self-defense by striking the Iranian island and disabling the tanker’s engine due to violation of a blockade.
In response to the incident, Britain’s Foreign Secretary strongly condemned Iran’s attack on Kuwait’s main airport, which sustained significant damage and briefly halted operations. Expressing solidarity with Kuwait and Gulf partners, the UK called for the ceasefire to be upheld and urged Iran to engage in constructive dialogue for lasting peace.
Kuwaiti authorities reported one fatality and 63 injuries from the attack, with an Indian national among the casualties. Reports indicated that Iranian missiles aimed at Kuwait had malfunctioned, while the US military intercepted drones targeting American forces. Kuwait’s defense spokesperson confirmed the interception of ballistic missiles and drones, highlighting ongoing tensions in the region following previous conflicts involving Iran and its allies.
As Iran continues its aggressive actions, including blocking the vital Strait of Hormuz, global concerns over stability and the impact on the oil industry persist.
