A respected military veteran tragically lost his life in a violent incident at his residence during a meeting set up on Facebook Marketplace. Michael Ryan Burke, aged 42, was reportedly engaged in a sale that took a deadly turn, resulting in a robbery involving a mobile phone on Sunday. In a distressing final call to law enforcement, Burke provided descriptions of the alleged assailants before bidding a heartbreaking farewell to his family.
Authorities in Columbia, Missouri, have apprehended three 18-year-olds and one minor, charging them with the murder of Michael. The victim was shot inside his home and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Alexis Baumann, 18, faces charges of second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and first-degree burglary, while Kobe Aust, 18, has been arrested on similar charges.
Additionally, Joseph Crane, 18, has been detained on charges of second-degree murder, armed criminal action, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, and unlawful use of a weapon. A male juvenile, whose identity remains undisclosed, has also been taken into custody on charges mirroring those of the other suspects.
A close friend of Ryan, Jerry Reifeiss, recounted the victim’s final moments in a poignant interview, likening Burke’s courage to that which he displayed during his military service. According to 13KRCG, Jerry described how Ryan bravely contacted emergency services, detailed the attackers, and managed to send heartfelt messages to his mother and sister before his tragic passing.
The Columbia Missouri Police Department confirmed that officers provided immediate medical aid to Burke before he was transported to a local hospital, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries. The victim’s family has been informed of his untimely demise.
Reflecting on his friend’s selfless act, Jerry emphasized Ryan’s caring nature and his desire for justice, stating that Ryan always prioritized others’ well-being and ensured his loved ones knew he cherished them deeply.
This unfortunate incident follows the imprisonment of a suspected hitman who posed as a Deliveroo rider and shot an eight-year-old girl and her father. Jazz Reid, who fired multiple shots resulting in severe injuries, received a 38-year prison sentence for the violent attack.
