Millions of viewers witnessed a total solar eclipse on Wednesday in regions such as the Arctic, Greenland, Spain, and Portugal. Those outside the path of totality experienced a partial eclipse. Here are some key moments from Wednesday’s solar eclipse.
In Spain’s Catalonia region, observers watched the eclipse from the sea port of Tarragona. The moon began to obscure the sun during the event in Berlin, Germany.
In western Germany’s Halde Hoheward park, a skywatcher used eclipse glasses to observe the solar eclipse. A video feed of the eclipse was displayed on a stadium screen in Salzburg, Austria, before the UEFA Super Cup soccer match between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa.
At the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw, a woman looked at the sun through a welder’s mask during the eclipse. The moon covering the sun was also visible from A Coruña, Spain.
At Puerto de Sagunto beach near Valencia, Spain, a beachgoer wore special eclipse glasses during the initial phase of the eclipse. In Reykjavík, Iceland, people gathered to watch the eclipse as clouds covered the sky.
An aircraft flew past during the eclipse in Bernex near Geneva, Switzerland. The total solar eclipse was observed from Arija, Spain, and at the Riet Vell Nature Reserve near Amposta, Spain.
