A woman was surprised when her usually independent sausage dog started exhibiting unusually clingy behavior, only to later discover that her pet had somehow sensed her cancer diagnosis. Meg Jones, a 26-year-old woman, initially experienced sharp pain in her left leg and was diagnosed with sciatica. During this time, her miniature dachshund named Samson began showing increased neediness, preferring to be close to her, which was out of character for him.
Upon noticing a rash on her left leg two months later, Meg sought medical attention at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester, where she received the devastating news of acute leukemia. Leukemia, a rapidly progressing form of blood cancer, typically necessitates immediate treatment. Meg was taken aback by the diagnosis in June 2024 but found solace in understanding the reason behind Samson’s unusual behavior leading up to her health struggles.
Following chemotherapy and achieving remission in October 2024, Meg experienced a cancer relapse in July 2025. However, after undergoing CAR T-cell therapy in November 2025, she is currently cancer-free. Meg, a resident of Manchester, recalled how her symptoms initially included night sweats, eczema, and unusual reactions to alcohol, which she later discovered were linked to her condition.
Expressing difficulties in social situations due to her ongoing treatment, Meg encourages others to promptly address any unusual symptoms they may experience. Reflecting on her journey, Meg emphasized the importance of self-advocacy and seeking medical attention when needed.
