“Missing Woman Delia McInerney Found Dead, Identity Revealed”

Date:

A woman who had been missing for nearly three years was discovered deceased inside an apartment, with her identity revealed for the first time in a photo released by authorities. The Merseyside Police responded to a call concerning an individual’s well-being at a residence in St Helens on January 8. The body of Delia McInerney was found, and it is believed she passed away on or before April 12, 2023, although her remains were only located recently.

In a touching statement issued by the police, Delia’s sister, Rita McInerney, described the 64-year-old as a “free spirit” who possessed intelligence and compassion. Rita expressed, “She was a talented artist, a nonconformist with a vibrant personality. She was caring, kind-hearted, and supportive. She was cherished as a sister and friend. Her absence will always be deeply felt.”

A close friend and neighbor, Emma Knight, shared that Delia was well-regarded and fondly remembered by those who knew her. Emma described Delia as a wonderful person who, despite her eccentricity, was incredibly kind and generous. She characterized Delia as spirited, extravagant, and easy to get along with, highlighting their long-standing friendship.

Recently, a 65-year-old man named George Christopher Gordon was charged with Delia’s murder. Additionally, he faces accusations of three instances of fraud occurring between April 2023 and June 2025, as well as one count of attempted theft. Earlier, Gordon had been accused of improper handling of a deceased body and impeding a coroner’s duties during a court appearance.

A spokesperson from the Merseyside Police confirmed on February 7 that a murder charge had been brought against George Christopher Gordon following the discovery of Delia McInerney’s body in St Helens. The victim was officially identified as Delia McInerney, aged 64. Delia’s family has been notified and is receiving support from specialized officers during this tragic period.

The Crown Prosecution Service announced the formal charges against George Christopher Gordon, emphasizing their decision was based on evidence presented by the Merseyside Police. Mr. Gordon is reminded of his right to a fair trial, and it is stressed that any reporting or information sharing that could prejudice the legal process should be avoided.

In response to the incident, Merseyside Police promptly intervened at the property around 11:30 pm on January 8, setting up a mobile station and patrol vehicles in the vicinity while a forensic examination tent was erected at the back of the building.
