Mother Charged After One-Year-Old Son Dies in Crib

Date:

A mother’s tragic nightmare unfolded when she discovered her one-year-old son dead in his crib due to suffocation from an unsafe sleeping setup. Amirah Eziah Moodie, 25, was arrested and charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death. The incident occurred after the child was put down for a nap by his mother and was left unattended for several hours.

The child’s father, who arrived home later, found the baby motionless in the crib. Authorities described the home as extremely messy, with hazardous conditions including an oversized mattress in the crib that posed a suffocation risk. Emergency services were called by Moodie when she found her child unresponsive.

During questioning, Moodie revealed details of the events leading to the tragedy, mentioning that she had put the child to bed the previous night and later found him entangled in bedding with marks on his neck. The autopsy report indicated the cause of death as asphyxia due to suffocation by unsafe bedding.

Moodie is currently in custody without bond and has appeared in court with further hearings scheduled. The heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safe sleeping practices for infants to prevent such tragedies.
