“Mother Takes Son on £300 Paris Adventure Instead of Birthday Party”

Date:

A mother opted for a unique approach to celebrating her son’s birthday by taking him on a budget-friendly trip to Paris instead of a traditional party. Monica Stott, a 37-year-old mother of three from Wrexham, typically travels without her children, but this time she brought her 11-year-old son along for the adventure.

Their whirlwind 24-hour excursion to Paris cost a total of £300, providing a more meaningful and cost-effective alternative to a conventional birthday party. Monica explained, “Spending a substantial amount on a party that won’t be remembered didn’t seem practical, especially considering that young children tend to forget such events.”

Compared to the average £250 expense for a class party at venues like cinemas or bowling alleys, the trip was not solely about saving money but about creating cherished one-on-one moments with her son. The duo managed to explore several iconic Parisian landmarks, enjoy the city’s ambiance, and return home before midnight.

Monica shared, “The experience was so exciting and memorable that my other children were unfazed by our absence, as they were engrossed in their own activities.” The idea of birthday trips started when her middle son expressed a desire to visit Barcelona for a day, and later her eldest chose Paris for his special day.

The journey began the night before, with an overnight stay at a budget hotel to avoid early morning departures. The following day was filled with visits to famous attractions like Sacre-Coeur, enjoying pastries at Place du Tertre, exploring the Louvre, Tuileries Garden, the Eiffel Tower, and a cruise on the River Seine.

Their day was punctuated with indulgences in baked goods and hot chocolates, concluding with a meal at the airport before their return flight at 10 pm. By 11 pm, they were back home, having accomplished a mix of iconic sights and spontaneous adventures in Paris.

Monica highlighted the importance of planning ahead for such extreme day trips, emphasizing the benefits of arriving the night before, traveling light, booking tickets in advance, and utilizing public transportation. She also mentioned her previous cost-effective visits to Reykjavik, Amsterdam, and Alicante for less than £100 each.

In summary, Monica emphasized that travel need not be exclusive to the wealthy, as with proper planning, even a quick day trip abroad can be an affordable and enjoyable treat for anyone.
