Emma Webber, the mother of Barnaby Webber, a victim of the Nottingham attack, has formed a strong connection with the parents of one of the young girls who tragically lost their lives in Southport. Together, they are united in their call for change. Emma’s life was shattered when Valdo Calocane, who suffered from paranoid schizophrenia, killed her son and two others in a violent spree in Nottingham in 2023.
In the midst of an ongoing inquiry uncovering serious errors made by law enforcement and mental health services, Emma stands in solidarity with the families of Elsie Dot Stancombe, Alice Da Silva Aguiar, and Bebe King, who fell victim to Axel Rudakubana’s knife attack. Despite multiple agencies being aware of the risks posed by the individuals involved, no effective intervention took place.
Expressing her shared grief with the Southport families, Emma emphasized the need for accountability and reform to prevent future tragedies. As the first stage report of the Southport inquiry is set to be released, detailing the events of the horrific attack by Axel Rudakubana on young children during a Taylor Swift-themed club, the failures of the UK’s Prevent counter-terror scheme in handling Rudakubana’s case have also come to light.
The inquiry into the Nottingham attack, where Valdo Calocane fatally stabbed Barnaby Webber and others, has highlighted alarming oversights in mental health care, including Calocane being discharged despite displaying concerning behavior.
