During a trial at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court, Thomas Mason, aged 28, became emotional as he testified against accusations of raping a woman in her tent at a prominent music festival in the UK.
Mason, who denies the rape charges, asserts that the sexual encounter with the woman was consensual. The incident allegedly occurred at the Green Man Festival in Crickhowell, Powys, where he is accused of sexually assaulting the woman.
The court learned that Mason and the alleged victim were strangers who met while dancing in a tent. The complainant had reportedly consumed alcohol and ecstasy that night.
Following consensual sexual activity in the woman’s tent, she reportedly experienced discomfort and requested Mason to stop. However, the prosecution alleges that Mason proceeded to sexually assault her against her will, as reported by Wales Online.
The prosecutor described the woman’s state during the incident, stating that she felt powerless and scared, asking Mason to cease his actions. The court heard accusations that Mason engaged in further non-consensual sexual acts, including rape and other forms of assault.
In his testimony, Mason recounted his version of events, claiming that he and the woman engaged in consensual activities and that she had not objected to their interactions. He denied any violent behavior or non-consensual acts during their encounter.
Mason expressed shock upon learning about the allegations against him and maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings. The trial is ongoing, with Mason pleading not guilty to the charges of rape and sexual assault.
