Authorities are investigating the death of a woman at a secluded cottage as a case of homicide, while the demise of a man at the same location is currently categorized as “unexplained”.
The bodies of Stacy Mair, aged 35, and a 43-year-old man were found by emergency responders on Corsliehill Road in Houston, Johnstone, on the morning of July 27 after concerns were raised about their well-being.
Initially, Police Scotland stated that the circumstances surrounding the deaths were unclear; however, they have since indicated a belief that Stacy may have been a victim of murder. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of her death in the near future.
A spokesperson from Police Scotland remarked, “The death of 35-year-old Stacy Mair in Houston is being treated as a murder case. At approximately 7:50 am on Monday, July 27, 2026, a report concerning an individual in the Corsliehill Road area of Houston was received.”
“Upon arrival, emergency services discovered the deceased bodies of a woman and a man nearby. Following a post-mortem examination today, the death of Stacy Mair, aged 35, is now considered a homicide.”
“The case of the 43-year-old man remains unresolved pending the results of a forthcoming post-mortem examination. Detectives from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, alongside local officers, are conducting thorough investigations to ascertain the complete circumstances surrounding the incident.”
“At present, there is no indication of external involvement or any threat to public safety.”
Detective Chief Inspector Laura Young of the Major Investigation Team expressed, “Our sympathies are with the affected families during this tragic event. They are understandably distraught, and we are offering them assistance through specialized personnel during this challenging period.”
Chief Inspector Iain Farmer added, “This incident has deeply affected the families involved and the local community at large. We appreciate the support received as we finalize our essential inquiries to provide the families and local residents with the necessary information they seek.”

Images captured at the scene by the Record on Tuesday depict several police vehicles stationed outside a property in Houston and along a nearby road. Law enforcement officers can be observed near the cottage, where vans are also positioned in an adjacent field, as well as searching the surrounding woodland.
The residence is located on the main road, with a similar property just a short distance away.
Corsliehill Road is a narrow rural path bordered by farmland and a few isolated homes, with minimal traffic flow. Reports indicate a substantial emergency services presence in the vicinity, including the deployment of a police helicopter on Monday.</p
