People were amazed by NASA’s recent revelation of the food menu for the four astronauts embarking on the 10-day Artemis II mission in space. The mission, which commenced on April 1, marks a significant event as it has been over 50 years since four astronauts have traveled to space and around the moon. The Space Launch System rocket, launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, transported the crew aboard the Orion spacecraft for a planned test flight around the moon and back, aligning with NASA’s strategy to return humans to the lunar surface.
During the 10-day mission, the crew will enjoy a variety of meals in space. The menu for the Artemis II mission includes dishes such as barbecued beef brisket, vegetable quiche, broccoli au gratin, and macaroni and cheese. The astronauts will have a selection of drinks ranging from mango-peach smoothies and chocolate and strawberry breakfast drinks to coffee and green tea. It is estimated that the crew will consume a total of 43 cups of coffee during the mission.
NASA emphasized that the food provided for the crew on Artemis II is carefully selected to support their health and performance during the mission without the option for resupply, refrigeration, or late-loading. Additionally, the crew will have five different hot sauces available along with other flavoring options like maple syrup, chocolate spread, peanut butter, and honey strawberry jam.
The food supply also includes treats such as cookies, chocolate, cake, candy-coated almonds, cobbler, and pudding for moments when the crew craves something sweet. The diverse menu sparked a wave of comments from the public, with many expressing surprise and admiration for the astronauts’ dining experience in space. Comments ranged from astonishment at the gourmet offerings to appreciation for the variety of pre-packaged meals available during the mission.
