Nestle has announced another significant change to its Quality Street tubs for the second consecutive year. The renowned chocolate manufacturer has revealed that its Quality Street chocolates will be packaged in paper tubs once again, aligning with Nestle’s broader initiative to make all its packaging recyclable by 2025.
Last year, Nestle introduced the environmentally friendly, eight-sided paper tubs, which received mixed reactions from shoppers. While some expressed a preference for the traditional tins due to their versatility, others welcomed the new design as an innovative and sustainable choice.
Starting from October, shoppers will have the option to purchase the paper Quality Street tubs at selected Tesco stores, alongside the continued availability of plastic tubs.
A Nestle spokesperson confirmed that Quality Street will reintroduce paper tubs in specified Tesco stores this Christmas season. The brand remains attentive to consumer feedback and is continuously exploring innovative ways to enhance the sustainability of its packaging.
In the previous year, over 200,000 paper tubs containing approximately 150 tonnes of Quality Street sweets were distributed to select Tesco outlets. Nestle emphasized that despite the shift to paper packaging, the tubs maintain a luxurious appearance with gold foil embellishments and a re-closable feature, ensuring easy recycling once empty.
Quality Street transitioned from colorful plastic wrappers to recyclable paper ones in 2022. Jemma Handley, Senior Brand Manager for Quality Street, expressed pride in being the first major manufacturer to trial a paper tub for Christmas, emphasizing the appealing design and the consistent quality of the beloved sweets inside.
Cheryl Allen, Head of Sustainability – Confectionery Europe at Nestle, highlighted the company’s commitment to sustainable packaging and the importance of adapting to evolving consumer preferences and technological advancements. The trial of the paper tubs will provide valuable insights to guide future sustainability efforts and reduce the use of virgin plastic.
Overall, Nestle’s decision to reintroduce paper tubs for its iconic Quality Street chocolates reflects its dedication to environmental responsibility and meeting the changing demands of consumers.
