A significant change is imminent for some households as they may soon face restrictions on streaming online content. The warning specifically targets UK residences with BT TV service, as certain set-top boxes are losing compatibility with the popular Netflix application. Netflix is enhancing its service, but this advancement unfortunately means that older hardware will no longer be able to support the updates.
Which devices will be impacted? Two BT TV boxes are slated to lose Netflix support:
– TV Recordable Box (G4)
– TV Box (Z4)
BT clarified, “Netflix is updating its app to enhance user experience, rendering it incompatible with these specific boxes.”
Initially reported by Cordbusters, the alteration is set to come into effect on March 4, 2026. Following this date, users with these boxes will no longer access Netflix content such as Drive to Survive, Stranger Things, Seven Dials, and Breaking Bad unless they switch to more recent models.
BT assured that newer BT TV models will not be affected by the Netflix restriction. “The remaining EE TV Boxes, including the 4K Recordable Box (G5), will remain supported,” the company stated.
BT also confirmed that customers’ Netflix subscriptions will remain unaffected. “Your Netflix subscription will not be impacted, and you can continue streaming on supported devices.”
Individuals who suspect they are using the affected boxes are encouraged to contact BT to explore upgrading to a newer model. Despite the block on Netflix through certain BT TV boxes, Netflix will still be accessible via alternative devices like smart TVs, Fire TV Sticks, gaming consoles, and Apple TV boxes.
