The Prime Minister, under mounting pressure over Lord Mandelson’s appointment as the UK’s ambassador to Washington, pledged to present legislation to strip him of his peerage title. Cabinet Office minister Chris Ward informed MPs that the proposed legislation, along with broader House of Lords reforms, would be unveiled after the parliamentary recess which ends on February 23.
Moreover, the government committed to releasing crucial documents related to Lord Mandelson’s appointment promptly. These documents, including WhatsApp exchanges between government officials and Lord Mandelson, are currently being reviewed for relevance before being handed over to Parliament’s Intelligence and Security Committee.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting recently disclosed private messages with Lord Mandelson to refute allegations about their relationship. In the messages, Mr. Streeting expressed concerns about his political future, criticized the government’s economic strategies, and condemned Israel for alleged war crimes.
