Nightmare Renovation: Woman Left Washing Dishes in Bathtub

Date:

A woman’s kitchen renovation turned into a nightmare as the builders never returned after starting the project. Heather McKay, 42, shared her ordeal of living without a functional kitchen for six weeks, resorting to washing dishes in the bathtub due to the unfinished work left by contractors sent by her housing association.

According to Heather, the kitchen was left in a derelict state with rubble on the floor, broken sink, leaking pipes, and no hot water or cooking facilities. She and her partner had repeatedly complained to Livv Housing, the property manager, about the situation since they moved in early 2025. The renovation work began in February but abruptly stopped without completion.

Despite promises of a return visit by the builders on March 30, Heather received a letter postponing the rectification to April 24. Anthony Johnson, Heather’s partner, expressed frustration at the lack of progress and accountability from both Livv Housing and the contractors.

The ongoing kitchen chaos has severely impacted Heather’s daily life, leaving her with no clean clothes for weeks and feeling vulnerable and depressed. She sought temporary rehousing assistance from Livv Housing, which redirected her to Liverpool Council’s homeless services, adding to her distress.

In response, Livv Housing Group acknowledged the situation and attributed initial delays to access issues but assured ongoing efforts to expedite the renovation work. They pledged to maintain direct communication with Heather and provide updates throughout the process.
