Norwegian Teen Allegedly Lured for Murder Plot

Date:

A 19-year-old Norwegian individual, Johannes Kongsnes Natland, was reportedly lured by a Swedish criminal organization linked to the Iranian government to carry out a murder in England, as revealed in court proceedings.

Natland traveled to the UK with a purported intention to commit a “hit” in exchange for payment, although he initially claimed to airport authorities that he was visiting to sightsee. Allegedly, he was working on behalf of the Foxtrot Network, a Swedish criminal group associated with the Iranian regime.

After flying from Norway to Manchester Airport on March 18, Natland was apprehended in a hotel room in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire two days later. Law enforcement officers found a semi-automatic pistol, a revolver, and 12 rounds of live ammunition in his possession. According to the prosecution, Natland, hailing from Stavanger in southwest Norway, had agreed to engage in criminal activities for financial compensation.

The court heard that a person identified as Agent 47 had contacted an individual using the username Generalen to seek a person willing to execute an assassination in the UK, with an offer of 25,000 euros (£21,590). Natland was then approached by a user named UnknownHustler on March 15, informing him about the task at hand.

Upon his arrival in the UK, Natland was questioned by Border Force officers regarding his age and financial resources. He informed them that he had come to meet his online gaming friends and explore landmarks in the city.

Later that day, Natland received a message from Agent 47 instructing him to prepare for the mission. He acquired the firearms and ammunition, informing his girlfriend that everything was set. Additionally, he purchased rubber gloves and arranged for transportation, as outlined by the prosecution.

Specialized firearms officers arrested Natland at the Briar Court Hotel in Huddersfield on March 19. As he approached the officers, he mimicked holding a firearm and pretended to shoot at them.

The prosecutor highlighted that the Foxtrot Network, despite being rooted in Sweden, had leaders residing elsewhere. He emphasized that the group often recruits young individuals without direct connections for criminal operations, facilitated by social media platforms promoting transnational crime.

The court was informed about the hierarchical structure of the criminal network, involving instigators like Agent 47, recruiters such as Generalen, and enforcers like Natland. These enforcers, often recruited from unrelated backgrounds like care homes, carry out tasks without direct ties to the intended victims, illustrating the gravity of Natland’s alleged involvement in the criminal enterprise.

Natland has pleaded not guilty to the charge of conspiracy to murder. The trial at the Old Bailey courthouse is ongoing.
