A nurse recently appeared in court for allegedly using an exercise band to strangle her three children to death. Lindsay Clancy, who had to use a wheelchair due to a neck injury sustained while escaping from her home post the incident, made her first in-person court appearance on Friday.
Previously attending hearings via video from her hospital bed, Clancy, along with her lawyers and Judge William Sullivan, scheduled a court date for March 2 to discuss various legal matters, including a split trial.
The former nurse is seeking a jury trial to determine her accountability for the deaths of her children, aged 5, 3, and 8 months. The tragic incident occurred in January 2023 in Duxbury, Massachusetts, where she allegedly used the exercise band.
Clancy’s lawyer, Kevin Reddington, mentioned that she will undergo a mental evaluation on April 10 to assess if she was suffering from a “mental disease or defect” during the time of the incident. Reddington emphasized the importance of Clancy’s well-being in court proceedings, citing her struggles with severe postpartum mental health issues.
According to Clancy’s lawsuit, she was improperly treated for bipolar disorder, receiving multiple medications from October to December 2022. Allegedly, the medication intake led to a state of hearing voices and being controlled by a “force” on the day of the tragic incident.
Clancy’s husband has filed a lawsuit against her doctors, claiming she was excessively medicated, resulting in the distressing situation. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder a year after the incident, the lawsuit highlighted that antidepressants exacerbated her condition.
Despite the ongoing legal battles, Clancy’s mother, Paula Musgrove, described her as a caring mother. Clancy has been under suicide watch at Tewksbury State Hospital since her arrest. Her complete trial is scheduled for July at Plymouth Superior Court.
