“Ofcom Launches Map Your Mobile: Find Best Network Coverage”

Date:

Ofcom has launched a new service called Map Your Mobile, which allows smartphone users to check the signal strength of different UK networks in their area by entering their postcode. Millions of users may be missing out on better data and call quality by not utilizing the most suitable mobile network for their location.

Map Your Mobile is now the most comprehensive tool for comparing mobile coverage and performance throughout the UK. By entering a postcode, users can view a map displaying the network with the best performance in that area. To access the service, users can visit the Ofcom website and input their postcode for personalized results.

Natalie Black, Ofcom’s Group Director for Networks and Communications, emphasized the importance of choosing the right mobile network based on individual needs. The tool provides detailed coverage and performance information tailored to smartphone requirements, enabling users to make informed decisions.

In addition to assessing performance at home, Ofcom encourages users to check their work address and commute route to ensure optimal mobile network coverage. If a different network offers better performance, it might be worth considering a switch.

The new Map Your Mobile tool incorporates crowdsourced data from Opensignal, reflecting real user experiences, as well as predictive data from UK mobile operators. With the increasing demand for reliable mobile services for activities like gaming, video streaming, and remote work, the tool aims to provide accurate and relevant information to meet modern user needs.

Telecoms Minister Sir Chris Bryant highlighted the significance of fast and reliable mobile coverage in driving economic growth and enhancing connectivity nationwide. The tool offers consumers accurate, postcode-level information to empower them in selecting the network that best suits their needs, whether at home, work, or during commutes. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between coverage reports and actual signal experiences, ensuring users can make informed choices for improved connectivity.
