A video captured a tense daylight confrontation outside a mobile phone store where an off-duty police officer intervened by shooting a suspected robber and aiding in the capture of another individual. The incident occurred on Avenida Paula Ferreira in Sao Paulo, Brazil’s largest city.
The off-duty officer, identified as Luiz Fernando Souza Nunes de Viveiros, witnessed two men confronting a delivery driver outside the store. One of the suspects reportedly announced a robbery, prompting the officer to draw his weapon and fire a shot, hitting one of the suspects, Michael Santos Preto, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The second suspect, Joao Renato Macedo dos Reis, attempted to flee but was apprehended by members of the public nearby. He tried to use a firearm against the officer, but the weapon malfunctioned. Authorities cordoned off the area for forensic examination and evidence collection.
The Sao Paulo State Department of Public Security confirmed that the suspects resisted arrest, leading to the death of one suspect and the arrest of the other.
