The travel experts at Iglu Cruise have curated a comprehensive Green City Index ranking the top 10 cities worldwide that seamlessly integrate nature with city living. The evaluation criteria include the presence of greenery, air quality, and accessibility to public green spaces. Surprisingly, a European city has emerged as the frontrunner, located just a short two-hour flight away.
Oslo, the capital of Norway, claimed the top spot with an impressive green score of 77.3, attributed to its exceptional air quality and abundance of green areas and public parks.
Remarkably, 95% of Oslo’s residents reside within a mere 300-meter stroll of a green space, making it one of Europe’s most pedestrian-friendly capitals, akin to living within a vast national park.
Oslo’s innovative ‘pocket parks’ initiative, driven by community efforts, has transformed former parking spaces into lush green zones. Additionally, the city is home to the pioneering ‘bee highway,’ a network of flower-lined corridors and bee habitats weaving through urban streets, offering visitors a unique encounter with Norway’s stunning natural beauty just moments away.
Noteworthy attractions in Oslo include the Royal Palace Park and Vigeland Park, renowned as the largest sculpture park worldwide crafted by a single artist.
