“Pacquiao Confirms Mayweather Rematch Talks”

Date:

Manny Pacquiao has confirmed discussions about a potential rematch with renowned boxer Floyd Mayweather. Negotiations are reportedly being spearheaded by Netflix, aiming to bring together two of modern boxing’s biggest stars.

The duo previously clashed over a decade ago, generating over £500 million from US pay-per-view sales. Despite high expectations, Mayweather secured a clear victory, with Pacquiao attributing his performance to a shoulder injury.

Pacquiao, an ex-eight-weight world champion, surprised the boxing world by revealing plans for a rematch with Mayweather over a year ago. Mayweather, in response, demanded a substantial $4 million payment for prematurely disclosing the talks.

Undeterred, Pacquiao expressed willingness for a rematch, emphasizing Mayweather’s role in making it happen. The Filipino senator highlighted his motivation to continue boxing post-surgery, crediting faith for his health and strength.

Pacquiao recently fought Mario Barrios to a draw in a bid for the WBC welterweight title after a four-year hiatus. Meanwhile, Mayweather, with a 50-0 record, engaged in only two professional fights post-Pacquiao, opting for exhibition matches against opponents like Logan Paul.

Despite not ranking Mayweather among his top rivals, Pacquiao cited Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, and Antonio Margarito as significant opponents. He critiqued Mayweather’s defensive style, deeming their previous encounter lackluster for fans craving a more engaging bout.
