“Partial Tower Collapse in Manchester City Center”

Date:

Locals were evacuated from multiple buildings in the city center this afternoon following reports of a structure resembling an earthquake as a tower block partially collapsed. The incident occurred near Bridge Street in Manchester’s city center, where the building, known as Alberton House, was set for demolition. Witnesses described feeling a seismic-like tremor before emergency services arrived to secure the area and evacuate nearby structures.

Reports indicated that a section of Alberton House collapsed, causing scaffolding to tumble into the adjacent River Irwell. The founder of Cardinal House, George Jones, explained that approximately 500 individuals had to be sent home due to safety concerns. He mentioned that the incident resembled an earthquake, prompting people to evacuate out of fear for their safety.

Recent images from the scene depict the aftermath of the building collapse, showing the structure bending over and scaffolding descending towards the street level in Manchester’s city center. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue responded promptly to the incident, dispatching a fire engine to St Mary’s Parsonage. A spokesperson confirmed that the collapse occurred during the demolition process, with no injuries reported.

In light of the situation, firefighters swiftly arrived at the scene to address the partial collapse of the tower block, which was previously marked for demolition.
