Pastor Brodes Perry, a well-respected executive pastor at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church in Memphis, Tennessee, was known for providing spiritual and moral guidance to the church community. Prior to his time in Memphis, he served as a pastor of assimilation at Saint Mark Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. In this role, he assisted new church members in integrating into the congregation and offered counseling support.
Brodes, aged 36, and his wife Tabatha, 42, resided together in Collierville, Tennessee. Tragedy struck on April 4, 2019, when gunshots were reported at their apartment late at night. When the authorities arrived, they found Brodes critically injured on the floor in a pool of blood, with Tabatha also wounded. Another woman was reloading a gun in her possession.
Law enforcement intervened by using a non-lethal firearm to subdue the woman, who was then apprehended. All three individuals were taken to the hospital for treatment. Brodes succumbed to his injuries the following day after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso. Tabatha survived with a shoulder injury, while the female assailant did not require further medical attention.
The tragic incident involving the revered pastor shocked the community, leading to the revelation of a scandal involving the shooter, identified as Latoshia Daniels, a 39-year-old social worker from Arkansas. Investigations unveiled that Daniels had a connection to Brodes and Tabatha through their church in Little Rock, where Brodes previously served. Daniels, who specialized in anger management, had sought counseling from Brodes amid personal struggles.
Tabatha recounted the events of the night, disclosing that Brodes and Daniels had been engaged in an extramarital affair, which Brodes had terminated. Details emerged that Daniels had purchased a firearm on the day of the incident and traveled from Arkansas to confront Brodes at his residence. The encounter turned violent when Daniels, expressing her emotions, shot Brodes in a fit of rage, causing injury to Tabatha as she tried to shield her husband.
Following her arrest and subsequent legal proceedings, Daniels faced charges of first-degree murder and firearm possession. The trial, which encountered delays, culminated in a conviction of second-degree murder in November 2025. Daniels received a 20-year prison sentence for the crime, along with additional time for reckless endangerment.
