A woman’s body discovered on a popular beach led authorities to apprehend a suspect with the help of a single photo.
Heather Asendorf, aged 56, was found deceased in the sand early on Boxing Day morning. A passerby alerted the police after spotting her in the area.
Brandon Ward McCray, 28, was arrested on 5 January and charged with multiple offenses including sexual battery, kidnapping, and battery by strangulation.
Local reports from WTVJ revealed that witnesses observed Asendorf’s body wrapped in a white blanket and noticed a blood trail near the scene.
Emergency responders at Hollywood Beach in Florida confirmed Asendorf’s death, later determining it as a homicide. Investigators disclosed that Asendorf, originally from Pennsylvania, frequented the location.
Initially withholding specific details linking McCray to the case, authorities eventually identified him as the suspect due to his resemblance to a man captured in a photo carrying the victim to the beach, as per the arrest affidavit.
According to WSVN, detectives suspect that McCray and Asendorf had prior acquaintance before the alleged murder. The police stated that the case remains an active criminal investigation without posing a wider danger to the community. McCray is currently detained at Broward County Main Jail without bail, as reported by the Miami Herald.
Another recent incident involved the discovery of a woman, missing for three years, whose body was found, leading to a murder charge against a man. Delia McInerney, presumed to have died before April 12, 2023, was located on January 8 after a search in St Helens.
McInerney, who would have been 64 years old at the time of discovery, resided in Anfield, Liverpool. George Christopher Gordon, 65, faces murder charges related to her case, along with additional fraud and theft allegations spanning between April 2023 and June 2025.
Prior to the murder charges, Gordon had faced legal action concerning the handling of a dead body and obstructing a coroner’s duties. Merseyside Police announced Gordon’s murder charge following the identification of the victim, Delia McInerney, providing support to her family during this tragic period.
